Untitled (A Country Shuffle)
2021
(Initial State) text on vintage directory board
72”h x 26”w x 18”d

In a conjectural or convoluted ekphrastic act (a term for poetry that is written about works of art) Untitled first fills an institutional directory sign frame (later a very public LED scroll, and eventually other formats), with a simple description of a song that hasn’t been written yet. The text grows and changes over time as it finds new homes, eventually moving to attempt lyrics and further descriptions (futile or vivid) of the song’s qualities. Current state: From my window / a country shuffle / set to the rhythm / of an automobile’s turn signal / about where I’m from / It uses a road metaphor / Upbeat tune / downbeat story
